Canada’s medal tally at the Rio de Janerio Summer Olympics has risen to eight. Rowers Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee won a silver medal in the women’s lightweight double sculls.
The duo from Victoria B.C. finished behind gold medalists Ilse Paulis and Maaike Head of the Netherlands. Bronze went to China’s Huang Wenyi and Pan Feihong.
The Canadians shows impressive finishing power. At the 1,000-metre mark they were three seconds of the pace in fifth. With 500 metres to go they sat third after shaving the deficit to 1.63 seconds. A powerful kick down the stretch lifted them into the silver medal position.
Four years ago in London, Jennerich and Obee were left devastated, finishing a disappointing seventh overall.
The pair were fourth at last year’s world championships after placing second in 2014
