A go fund me campaign has ensured there will be a rainbow crosswalk for this year’s Calgary Pride festival which begins later this month.
The goal was four thousand dollars as Calgary Pride didn’t have the money to have a city intersection painted into a rainbow crosswalk to recreate what was done at the intersection in front of city hall and Stephen avenue.
The goal was met with a healthy $1,815 donation from Justin Havre and Associates.
He says it’s a great symbol of Pride week and shows that Calgary supports its diverse communities.
The total now has climbed to over $5,800.
Calgary Pride officials say the plan is to work with the city to have a crosswalk painted either in front of the Calgary tower or on 1st street and Stephen Avenue.
They say the extra money will go towards a more permanent commemoration of Calgary pride.
