The provincial government is reviewing the operations of the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council.
Service Alberta Minister Stephanie Maclean says there have been consumer complaints about the organization and she has seen media stories with concerns about AMVIC.
The review will look at the operations of the organization and governance of the organization and whether AMVIC is meeting its mandate to protect consumers and whether a compensation fund is doing what it’s supposed to do to help consumers ripped off by unscrupulous automotive dealers.
George Cuff, the former mayor of Spruce Grove is conducting the review which is expected to take 3 to 4 months and could come back with a recommendation to wipe out the entire board of AMVIC.
An investigative review done in 2014 found basic investigative principles were not followed and staff turnover was an with 33 of employees voluntarily leaving AMVIC or being terminated over an 18 month period.
