Calgary EMS were called to an area near the airport Wednesday afternoon over reports of a lightning strike.
Four people were assessed by paramedics and two were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The lightning strike happened around 2pm near the 500 Block of Palmer Road.
Shortly thereafter, EMS was called to assess a man in his 20’s, believed to have also been affected by the same strike, but at a separate, nearby location.
He was transported to Rockyview Hospital in stable, non life-threatening condition.
Meantime, Environment Canada has issued a funnel cloud advisory for Calgary and area.
Forecasters say the funnels will be generated by a weak rotation and normally do not pose a danger near the ground.
Besides Calgary the advisory covers areas around Okotoks, High River, Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Red Deer, Drumheller, Vulcan and Strathmore.
