If you thought the worst was over for Calgary road work this summer, get ready for three major paving projects that are sure to cause traffic tie-ups.
The city is doing rehab work on sections of 14th street N.W., John Laurie Boulevard and Macleod Trail, just three of 12 major road projects crews are powering through this summer.
Chris McGeachy with Calgary Roads says the wet July we experienced means there will be more road work in August than we would normally see.
“They’re kind of coinciding with each other. This is mainly due to the rainfall we experienced in July. It’s kind of shortened our construction window so some of the projects are going to overlap. Some of these projects were started earlier but unfortunately due to the weather some of it has been delayed, specifically concrete work and base repairs.”
Pre-work on John Laurie starts today meaning there will be reduced lanes in each direction between McKnight Blvd. and 14th St.
The 14th street work between 8th Avenue and Memorial Drive will begin on Monday while the work on Macleod Trail from 34 Avenue to 58 Avenue S.E. begins on August 19th.
McGeachy says they try to do the work during off-peak hours and on weekends but some of it will take place on weekdays, so there will be traffic delays.
All of the work is slated to be complete by early September.
