The operator of an unlicensed day home has now been charged in the death of a toddler last month at a southwest home.
18-month-old Ceira Lynn McGrath died after she was found not breathing in the Silverado home November 12th. Police say she had been sitting in a car seat for some time when she was found in medical distress for a prolonged period of time. She later died.
Homicide Staff Sgt Doug Andrus explains why this investigation has taken so long.
“The anatomy of a child is different than that of an adult. There are tests that we do on infants that we don’t do on adults and they take a prolonged period of time to get the results back. We also consulted with a bio-mechanic expert and it took time for her to do her examination and prepare her report. She looked into the relationship of the car seat and the medical distress suffered by the infant.”
