A sentencing date has been set for two brothers who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl.
Cody and Corey Manyshots were convicted in the November 2014 attack and sentencing arguments began last week for the pair.
The hearing was cut short as lawyers wanted more time to explore mental health issues relating to the brothers.
The Crown was asking for 12-years each, while Cody’s lawyer wants six years behind bars minus time served, which would amount to four years remaining, while Corey’s lawyer requested time served.
Lawyers have set aside the date of November 25th to continue the hearing.
Several Taradale residents gathered at the courthouse on Wednesday in support of the victim.
Some continue to question why her victim impact statement wasn’t allowed to be read into court last week.
They also had “12” painted on their faces, to mark the request of the Crown.
“Anything less than 12 at this point would be just a disappointment,” Rachelle Christopher told reporters.
“We cannot let the concerns of the assailants outweigh the concerns of the victims,” Taradale Community Association President Khalil Karbani said, adding he hopes that the sentence fits the crime.
