The Alberta government issued an emergency alert for Grande Prairie last night after a summer storm caused flooding in several areas.
Resident Chis Haynes tells Global News water levels were rising quickly as heavy rain pounded the area for just over half an hour. “We haven’t seen anything like this since I’ve been in Grande Prairie,” Haynes said. “Non-stop rain coming down really hard. It probably lasted I would say about 40 minutes. Cars floating. People trying to swim.”
The local hospital remained open while it dealt with the flooding. The downtown area was the hardest hit. There were no reports of injuries.
