A Calgary mom accused in the death of her disabled daughter is facing a more serious charge.
69-year-old Patricia Couture was originally charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection with the death of her daughter Melissa.
The 38-year-old was found unresponsive in their Woodbine home on April 26th and was later pronounced dead.
Melissa had a developmental disability and suffered from chronic medical issues, and police said they believed she wasn’t getting the care she needed.
Alberta Justice now confirms Melissa’s mother is now facing a charge of criminal negligence causing death.
The case returns to court next week.
