A fish hatchery technician with the Alberta government says there’s a good chance all the fish in Sibbald Lake, west of Calgary, are dead.
Hot weather coupled with low water levels have led to the death of hundreds of fish in the lake in Kananaskis Country.
A member of the public came across a dead fish on the shoreline on Monday just days after the lake was restocked with 1,000 trout.
Ryan Lyster says while the water level is lower than usual due to dry conditions, the lake temperature was at a safe 16 degrees.
A crew is now cleaning up the shoreline.
Lyster says until water levels at the lake improve they will not be stocking it.
He also says there have never been issues with fish kills at Sibbald Lake in the past.
