He didn’t come right out and say it, but Gary Bettman all but said there will be on National Hockey League players at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
It’s unfortunate but very understandable.
Unfortunate because the hockey is best on best in the middle of the season (not like this September’s contrived cash grab).
But it is very understandable as the National Hockey League takes all the risks, while the International Olympic Committee pockets all the money. The NHL is forced to shutdown for three weeks, risk injury to their stars and pay many of the costs.
Why won’t the IOC and/or IIHF help out? In a word. Greed. The IOC wants it all their way or forget it. The NHL says forget it. I agree with them. You?
