One of the Calgary Zoo’s latest additions has a name.
Back on March 9th, Kioja gave birth to a baby girl, which led to the zoo holding a naming contest, which wrapped up earlier this month.
More than 47,000 people took part in the vote, with the majority voting for Kimani, which is an African-inspired name meaning beautiful and sweet.
The baby was the last fathered by Kakinga, the silverback gorilla who passed away earlier this month at the age of 37.
In a blog post on its website, the Zoo also updated the situation with Zuri, one of the eldest female gorillas.
She underwent surgery last month, and officials say she’s improving slowly, although she’s still considered to be in serious condition and under careful monitoring.
