Alberta’s job woes continued last month with the loss of 20,800 positions-more than any other province.
The province’s unemployment rate was up slightly from 7.1 to 7.2 per cent in April. Calgary’s rate sat at 8.3 per cent.
Nationally a solid employment gain in the services sector was wiped out by losses in the goods-producing industry, resulting in a net decline of 2,100 jobs.
The national unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 percent.
Stats Can says the country lost nearly 52,000 manufacturing jobs between December and April, with over 23,000 of them in Alberta.
