Hundreds of laid of professionals took part in a workshop Friday afternoon, focusing on mental health in an economic downturn.
The event, put on by Calgary Economic Development and partnering agencies, was the third in the “Re-engage series”.
Jeanette Dutherland, manager of workforce and productivity with Calgary Economic Development says they group felt compelled to put the session on.
“The health of our community is really important right now and we know that with unemployment rates at 8.6%, we’re very concerned about individuals. I know that it’s a very committed and dedicated group of talent that we have out there and we don’t want to lose that talent to other regions”.
The panel of speakers discussed a number of topics beyond mental health such as re-tooling after job loss, coping with job loss and how to prepare for a job search.
The Calgary Counselling Centre is also offering Calgarians an anonymous depression screening test all weekend as part of the event.
