Several Calgary taxi companies are dropping their fares effective today.
Associated Cabs started the fare war last week announcing it was dropping fares 12%. Mayfair and Checker/Yellow cabs have both said they’ll cut rates by 15% while Calgary United Cab is dropping rates by 20%.
The new fares follow city bylaw changes to accommodate ride-sharing services such as Uber. The bylaw changes eliminate minimum charges and allow companies to set their own rates.
Associated Cabs has said it could take up to a week for the new rates to be in effect in all cars.
