A new online portal will allow Calgarians to license their pets on the web, and in doing so, taking a major burden off the city.
In 2015 alone, the City of Calgary licensed over 120,000 animals, but in doing so, put tremendous strain on the small staff of animal services.
Now, they hope to have found an answer with the portal.
It will streamline the process for those looking to obtain an animal’s first license, or when a renewal comes up.
“We had a small staff here that had to send out notices on a routine basis,” Community Standards Director Ryan Jestin explained. “If you’re a pet owner, you got those in the mail, if you didn’t right away send in a cheque or make sure right away that your animal is licenses, then we’d have to phone and follow-up.”
For those not technologically-inclined, Jestin says the old way of going into an office to get a license will still work, but he hopes the workload will now be split up differently.
