Ahead of next week’s provincial budget, Premier Rachel Notley – at a cost of some $90,000 – bought some airtime last night to chat with Albertans:
It’s unclear, though, what the point of the speech was other than to recycle many of the same political talking points from the NDP: they won’t “slash and burn” healthcare and education (no shortage of that), their plan is prudent, they’re going to “invest” in infrastructure, they’re going to create jobs, they’re going to get us off the royalty roller coaster, etc.
In fact, the speech last night seemed more like a toned down version of this very political speech Notley gave late last year:
Obviously Notley is not the first Premier to take advantage of this sort of platform, but her address was just as political and forgettable as all the previous Premiers’ addresses. If Notley is determined to continue to take apart the Tory legacy, perhaps this is another tradition that could be dumped into the ashbin of history.
